| A picturesque setting on the Delaware River |
Many Brides know exactly how they want their weddings to be. In fact, they have probably been fantasizing about their Big Day way before they got engaged! What can be more challenging, though, is the engagement party. You may have alot of questions about how to throw a party that doesn't look like or feel like a second wedding.
Here are some tips for Engagement Parties:
- Don't feel like you have to invite everyone: Talk with your fiance about having a celebration for immediate family and the bridal party. This will keep your head count to a minimum, therefore keeping cost down and stress down as well. If your parents or in laws are hosting (as in paying for) the party, be flexible, but keep things on an even keel: if you are inviting aunts and uncles on your side, then aunts and uncles on your fiance's side should be invited as well.
- Take it to left field: even if you love bling and glitz, save it for the wedding. Having your engagement party in a location which will be really different from your reception venue will show your range, and it will help you from feeling like you're throwing the same party twice. We love the idea of engagement parties at wineries. It's elegant and relaxed all at the same time. Our favorite? Alba Vineyards in New Jersey. It's located just two miles from the Delaware River and it's the perfect location for wine tastings, a vineyard tour for your guests and an amazing dinner out in an open field. See more and contact them directly at www.albavineyard.com .
- Keep it close to home: a small engagement party beckons you to your own backyard! Here's the trick: hire help! A fun menu by your favorite caterer (think lots of room temperature appetizers), rented outdoor furniture, heat lamps and chic throw blankets to keep the backyard cozy, and a bartender and a waitress (ask your caterer to provide staff) will make your at-home party seem effortless. Worried about the weather? You can easily rent a tent and it can be installed at least 2 days before the party to ensure there are no last minute worries. String Chinese lanterns or artfully display large hurricanes with candles to add warmth and illumination to a nighttime fete.
Whatever you choose for your engagement party, make sure you keep your options open to all the possibilities.
